DIY Essential Oil Case for Only $1

I’ve been having trouble lately with finding a place to store my ever-growing supply of essential oils. When I first started buying them, I just placed them in the front of my kitchen cabinets. But, they would get in the way and our cats would always knock them over when they managed to get in there.

Recently I moved them to a tiny shelf with drawers that sits on my counter. But, the drawers are a pain to pull out and it doesn’t match anything in my house.

So here is my new solution for storing them! A DIY essential oil case!

Supplies:

$1 container from Dollar Tree (I couldn’t find it on the website, but they seem to always be in stock at the store)

Cardboard

Essential oils: I suggest using Eden’s Garden but if you’re strapped, these would be okay, too:

Now, you might think that you could just use a container like this without putting the dividers in, but if you don’t have that many essential oils, they’ll just be rolling around in there and possibly breaking.

If you decide to use this exact container, you will need 5 pieces cut to 5 1/8 in X 2 1/4 in. And 3 pieces cut to 6 3/4 in X 2 1/4 in. (Disregard the 4th longer piece in the picture. I forgot to take that out)

If you are using a different container, you will need to measure and cut the pieces to its dimensions. You might need more or less pieces.

Now make marks on the length of the longer pieces by dividing them into 6. Cut slits about 4/5 of the way up. Divide the shorter pieces into 4 and cut those about 3/4 of the way up.

For a taller container, you could make the cuts wider in between so it could fit larger bottles. Mine were spaced every 1 1/4 in. and it fit up to 15 ml bottles.

Place the shorter pieces of cardboard with the cut end up. Line up all the cuts like this and wiggle them down until they are all in place.

It holds 24 bottles of essential oils. The largest bottles that I can fit in there are 15ml.

The cardboard isn’t very pretty, but you could always paint the dividers if you want.

  1. Thank you!!! You saved me a lot of money! I also purchased a nail polish organizer for a $1. It fits in the container and it works great to hold the bottles. Does not work for roller balls so I will use cardboard on the other box.

  2. Thanks so much for this! A simple solution that I didn’t even think of! Duh! This will make my oils so much easier to organize! 🙂

  3. I honestly think this is brilliant! I’ve spent a small fortune on essential oil boxes and then have to find a place to keep them. These look like they can be safely stacked and easily labeled. Kudos.
