The growing baby inside your belly is well and truly in the final stages and you’re starting to get the urge to get all of your preparations in order. Being in your third trimester can be very satisfying, but also quite daunting and emotional. Playing the waiting game and longing for your little one to arrive in the world is a lot of work when you’ve done so much over the previous months, so how can you spend your time productively during this time?

Whether you’re stocking up on cloth diapers or getting your meal prep in order, there is so much you can do for preparations in your third trimester to ensure it’s smooth and enjoyable. Essentially, it would help if you were getting all of the final preparation stages done so that you can relax and take some time for yourself. Keeping busy during this latter stage of pregnancy is always a good idea too, as it will help your mind to stay occupied!

1. Create Your Birth Plan and Do Some Research

Figuring out how you want to give birth and spending some time on research is a brilliant way to pass the time when you’re in the third trimester. You may want to explore a hypnobirthing course, print some birth affirmations, or you may want to research water births if you’re looking to take a natural route. Speak to your midwife or doctor and collaborate with your partner to create a birth plan that makes you feel empowered and confident.

2. General Home Organization

If you were to ask a pregnant woman how they enjoy preparing, it’s probably home organization and everything in between. Getting your home in a good state for the arrival of your baby is a natural instinct that so many people go through. If you’re making the most of nesting you’ll feel happy that everything is in the right place and fully organized for the arrival of your little one. Whether you’re throwing out old belongings or clearing space in a drawer, there are so many ways to enjoy some general home organization during the late stages of your pregnancy.

3. Do Some Meal Prep

As soon as your baby is born, you’re not going to have time to think about cooking dinner and making wholesome meals, so you may as well use your time wisely. Doing some meal prep now will save you a ton of time later down the road and will ensure that you always have a healthy meal to eat when you’re feeling tired and low on energy after a long night of feeding your baby.

4. Start Your Baby Laundry

Getting on top of all of your household laundry is one step when it comes to getting prepared, but doing all of your baby laundry is a whole new beast to tackle. Usually, it’s customary to wash all of your new baby’s clothing before they wear them because their skin is so sensitive. Getting your baby’s laundry done now will make sure it’s all ready for their impending arrival and you’re not scrambling around trying to finish it off when they’re here.

5. Gather Your Newborn Baby Essentials

Gathering all of the gifts and baby essentials you have received from baby showers or friends and family is such an exciting part of being in your third trimester. Putting together a handy diaper caddy, filling the diaper bag, sourcing the best baby carrier, and checking everything off your list is super satisfying. This part of the preparations goes hand in hand with nesting and making sure that you’ve got everything you need when your new bundle of joy arrives at home.

6. Sleep as Much as You Can

Although it’s almost impossible to “bank” sleep, it’s certainly worth trying to catch some extra time in bed whenever you can. During your third trimester, your body’s working overtime to make sure that you and your baby are healthy. This means that you could feel more fatigued and experience more body aches than usual. Use this as an excuse to enjoy an extra long magnesium bath and snuggle into bed extra early if you can. Enjoy your nights of sleep as much as possible as it may be heavily disrupted once your little one arrives into the world!

7. Enjoy Relaxing Activities

Once your new baby makes their way into the world, you may struggle to find time to relax and do things that make you feel at peace. Making the most of this time now will help you feel comforted during your late stages of pregnancy and you’ll enjoy a little bit of self-care time during the process too. Whether you’re trying meditation during pregnancy, reading to your baby, or going for long walks outside, there’s so much you can do to help you feel good about what is about to happen.

8. Talk to Friends and Family

If you have any nerves or feelings of anxiousness during this time, you should know that it’s completely normal. Spending some time talking with your friends or family may help to alleviate some of these symptoms so that you can feel fully at ease with the exciting time that’s about to happen in your life.

Hopefully, the ideas mentioned here will help you to feel as prepared as possible when it comes to getting prepared for the arrival of your baby. The third trimester is all about feeling happy and comfortable with your surroundings so that you know your baby is coming into a loving and supportive environment. Whether you’re going the extra mile to snag some sleep, or you’re well and truly in nesting mode at home, there’s so much you can do to prepare in your third trimester of pregnancy. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make everything perfect at home, as this is likely to stress you out even more. Focus on the positives and enjoy the process of creating a calming and soothing space for you and your new baby to enjoy your first few weeks together in the world.
